Ender 3 (8 bit) SD Card menu disappearing

Hi There, hoping you might be able to help. I have an Ender 3 with 8 Bit Board 1.1.4 . I installed a BLTouch and finally just got it all working, calibrated and playing nice. But today, the SD Card menu went missing altogether!

It’s not an SD card issue. I’ve tried my 2 original creality SD cards. They both work in my second Ender 3. The menu is missing altogether. It has been there and I’ve been using it all week, then today, it’s gone.

I’ve been using the ‘Ender 3 - BLTouch - Advanced’ build. Flash via Progisp using the BLtouch USB ISP cable from kit.

I updated it to today’s build see if that magically fixed the issue. No luck, Built a custom build and installed that. No luck.

Rolled back to the creality build from their website (Ender-3 Pro1.1.6BLTouchV3.1PowerLossContinueEnglish.hex) - the SD menus re-appear and I can print from the SD card again. The hardware seems to be working.

Trouble is the stock build doesn’t really work for me, I just got used to all of the features of the latest build!

Can you point me in any direction to resolve this? Thanks for this service and thanks for your help in advance!

The 8 bit platforms are getting harder and harder to support as time goes by… I’d strongly suggest in the long term to look at something like the SKR Mini E3 v2.0 - as eventually, we won’t be able to fit code into the 8 bit flash space.

That being said, yes - the Advanced version of firmware doesn’t have SD Card support and is mostly aimed at USB printing.

The firmware listed as “Ender 3 - BLTouch - SDCard” does have SD Card support - but to fit that in the limited flash space, some advanced features need to be disabled.

Ok, gotcha! Thanks for that. For some reason I took the SD Card version to mean it would be installed via SD/Bootloader. Strange how it was working for a bit, but then stopped. Will give it a go now.

And I’ll look at the SKR upgrade! I was indeed wondering whether to do that.

And just confirming that the SD Card Version does work. Thanks again!
